On January 11, it was reported that there were 6 German citizens were convicted of Volkswagen emissions cheating in U.S. which first reported in 2015. The German auto giant was sued of maneuvering the in-car electronics so that vehicles would appear to meet the U.S. nitrogen oxide emission standards. Volkswagen agreed to plead guilty and paid $4.3 billion fine.
